Sport Boat Licence, Sea and Inland (Combined Course)

Aim

After completing the course and passing the exam, you will be authorized to:

  • Safely and independently operate recreational boats under 20 meters in length (under 15 meters on the Rhine) and with an engine power exceeding 15 HP (over 5 HP on the Rhine) on inland waterways such as the Rhine, Moselle, and Danube.
  • Operate recreational boats without length restrictions and with an engine power exceeding 15 HP in coastal and offshore areas such as the North Sea, Baltic Sea, and Mediterranean.

The course spans a period of 19 days. For the SBF Inland & Sea (Combined Course), four in-person instructional sessions are scheduled (four classes and an information evening discussion). The total duration is approximately 10 hours. Details and timings can be found below.

Description

  • Schedule for the SBF Inland & Sea (Combined Course)
    • Thursday, 06 February 2025:
      17:30 – approx. 21:00
      Information Evening (Questions regarding course structure, practical training dates, study effort, etc.), followed by the first instructional session.
    • Saturday, 08 February 2025:
      09:30 – approx. 12:30
      Second Instructional Session (SeeSchStrO, navigation, visual signals, and knot techniques).
    • Tuesday, 11 February 2025:
      17:30 – approx. 19:30
      Third Instructional Session (Navigation tasks).
    • Tuesday, 25 February 2025:
      17:30 – approx. 19:00
      Fourth Instructional Session (BinSchStrO).

    The SBF Inland & Sea (Combined Course) is an official, internationally recognized licence that combines the authorizations for operating motorized recreational boats on both inland waterways and in coastal and offshore areas. The course provides comprehensive preparation through theoretical instruction and practical navigation training.

Content

  • Discussion during the Information Evening: Introduction and Q&A session regarding the course structure, practical training dates, and study effort.
  • First Instructional Session: Introduction to SeeSchStrO (Maritime Waterways Regulations), navigation, visual signals, and knot techniques.
  • Second Instructional Session: Advanced navigation and navigation tasks.
  • Third Instructional Session: Basics of BinSchStrO (Inland Waterways Regulations).
  • Practical Training: Conducted over a weekend, followed by the practical exam.
