Sport Boat Licence (Inland)
Aim
After completing the course and passing the exam, you are entitled to safely and independently operate pleasure boats up to 20 metres in length (15 metres on the Rhine) and with an engine power of over 15 hp (5 hp on the Rhine) on inland waterways such as the Rhine, Moselle, Danube and others.
The course takes place over a period of 6 days. Two classroom teaching units are planned for the Sportbootführerschein Binnen (two sessions and a meeting on the information evening). The total duration is approximately 4–5 hours. Details and times can be found below.
Description
- Thursday, 06.03.2025 5:30 p.m. to approx. 7:00 p.m. Information evening (answers to questions regarding the procedure, dates for the training, learning requirements, etc.).
- Saturday, 08.03.2025 1:00 p.m. to approx. 2:30 p.m. 1st day of class (BinSchStrO, RheinSchPV, signals, knot theory).
- Wednesday, 12.03.2025 7:00 p.m. to approx. 8:30 p.m. 2nd day of instruction (right-of-way rules, discussion of exam manoeuvres, knot theory)
The Sportbootführerschein Binnen (inland waterway sport boating licence) is an official, internationally recognised licence for operating motorised pleasure craft on inland waterways. The course includes a combination of theoretical instruction and practical experience that provides optimal preparation for the exam.
Content
- Information evening: Introduction and answers to questions about the course schedule, dates for the practical training and the necessary study time.
- 1st day of class: Introduction to the BinSchStrO (Inland Waterways Shipping Regulations), RVIR (Rhine Police Regulations), hand signals and knot theory.
- 2nd day of class: Introduction to the rules of way, discussion of the examination manoeuvres and knot-tying.
- Practical training: Practical sailing exercises on a weekend, followed by a practical examination.

- To be eligible for the Pleasure Craft Skipper Licence (Binnen), you must be at least 16 years old.
- The prices shown do not include the examination fees.
- The practical training and practical examination take place over a weekend.
