Ship Measurer in Inland Navigation

Aim

You will be able to evaluate and implement the legal basis for ship calibration in inland navigation. At the same time, you will be able to determine the loading weight of an inland vessel by means of a calibration survey.

Description

A public appointment and swearing-in of a ship’s calibration technician in inland shipping takes place upon application at the relevant Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). According to the Expert Ordinance, certain requirements must be met for this, for example, determination of personal suitability. We cannot influence personal suitability in this course. But: We offer an effective training concept that conveys the responsibilities and tasks of a ship’s calibration technician.

• Responsibility and independence in determining weight
• Significance of the calibration certificate for determining the loading weight
• Dealing with differences/hull damage to the ship
• Practical exercises to consolidate the theoretical content
• Written final exam (internal academy exam)

Further information

The procedure for public appointment (swearing-in) is initiated by a formal written application to be submitted to the relevant Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). Please clarify with your IHK whether you meet the requirements for swearing-in. If a certificate of competence is required, the relevant IHK will register you in good time with the examining IHK for the examination as part of the so-called ‘administrative assistance’.

To pass the examination, you must fulfil the following criteria:
Expertise in the calibration of ships
Personal suitability for swearing in
Minimum age of 18
The examination fee for the proof of special expertise and the swearing-in costs are to be paid at the examination and swearing-in location of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
