Compact Training for Licence Holders

Aim

As part of a systematic and compact training programme, participants develop their competencies and consolidate existing skills so that they can apply them effectively in complex traffic situations. The continuous development of professional knowledge helps them meet the responsibilities of vessel command.

Description

Licence holders must demonstrate in realistic situations that they are able to make the correct decisions when navigating an inland waterway in order to ensure safe and incident-free navigation while temporarily taking over vessel command. They must comply with inland waterway traffic regulations and steer the vessel with foresight so that accidents can be avoided under all conditions and regardless of the time of day.

To meet these requirements, this compact training provides targeted simulations of complex navigation situations in which participants apply and further develop their skills. The focus is on responding correctly to unexpected events, communication within the crew and dealing with emergency situations. The exchange of experience and analysis of specific case studies further strengthen participants’ ability to act effectively. This gives participants the best possible preparation for acting responsibly and with foresight under exceptional circumstances and for maintaining safety on board at all times.

Content

• Compliance with inland waterway traffic regulations when navigating a waterway
• Internal and external communication procedures (radio discipline)
• Training in different navigation areas (river/canal)
• Application of professional knowledge during manoeuvring
• Emergency manoeuvres to avoid an accident
• Conduct under special circumstances
