Aim

Participants deepen their practical skills for continued safe operations on board. They apply regulations correctly and reinforce compliant behaviour. Continuous reflection on experience gained during operational duties is a key focus, allowing participants to develop their skills in a targeted way.

Description

In realistic scenarios, prospective licence holders demonstrate that they are able to make sound nautical decisions in order to ensure a safe and incident-free voyage. Consistent compliance with inland waterway traffic regulations and navigating with foresight are essential.

The advanced training enables participants to remain calm under time pressure, identify risks at an early stage and take targeted measures to prevent hazards. Decisions are communicated clearly and confidently. The close integration of theory and practice supports lasting learning and ensures that what has been learned can be transferred effectively to practical operations on board.

Targeted feedback phases and structured evaluations of the scenarios help sharpen safety awareness and strengthen participants’ ability to act effectively in everyday operations on board. This prepares participants for the requirements of their professional duties. The advanced training also provides an ideal opportunity to prepare specifically for a possible practical GDWS examination, Part 2, thereby laying the foundation for taking on responsibility in vessel command.

Content

• Refresher on inland waterway traffic regulations for navigating a waterway
• Internal and external communication procedures (radio discipline)
• Training in different navigation areas (river/canal)
• Application of professional knowledge during manoeuvring
• Emergency manoeuvres to avoid an accident
